Social Contract

When you are involved at Astra Labs, this is the social contract that you enter into, and that you will be held to. It's not a legal contract, but it is an outline of the expectations we have for you as you join our team.

1 | To your past

The most important part of the social contract we believe in is this - if you (or someone you love) has experienced pain and you have the ability to change it - it is your responsibility to try and change it for the people who can’t. 

2 | To our users

You will hold yourself and everyone you work with to protect and maintain the trust of our users. They trust us with the hardest situations they will face, and you owe it to them to do everything you can to protect them and build quality projects to aid them.

3 | To the team

You will be honest with the team 24/7. You will give and receive criticism and constructive feedback as necessary. You need to respect and honor everyone's time and effort, and owe everyone you may come across compassion and empathy. Most of all, you need to trust the team, and the team needs to be able to trust you back.

4 | To the organization

You will do the best you can to preserve the future of Astra, and to continue the culture and projects when you can. This is up to your own discretion, but it mostly means that you will raise issues as you see them, and be honest about areas we can improve and grow. However, this also means that you'll respect the things we implement to make sure the organization continues to grow well, even if it is mildly annoying.

5 | To our future

You will prioritize our long-term survival by not doing harmful stuff, whether to the company, to yourself, or to others.

6 | To your future

You will take care of yourself, and implement routines and boundaries in place to manage your work at the organization and your own mental health. You will take breaks as needed, but you will push yourself when necessary to grow. You will understand, assess, and work to improve your weaknesses as a person.

Most importantly, you’ll come to see that as much as you care and love for others, you will care and love yourself as well. When we build a better future for our users, we need to believe that we, too, deserve the future we’re building towards.
